Da Nang is the city many expats and remote workers pick for beaches, space and a lower bill than Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. This guide collects published 2026 figures for what you actually pay, shows where sources disagree, and says plainly what we could not verify. The biggest variable is not the city but how you find your flat.

The short answer

For a single person, Get Where Next (Mar 2026, updated Sep 2026) estimates $700–$900 lean, $1,000–$1,400 comfortable and $1,800+ premium. A Way Abroad (May 2026) estimates about $810 comfortable if you rent through local channels, about $1,200 through English-language listings, and about $1,760 for an oceanview apartment with a pool, housekeeping and coworking. The gap between local and English-language rents is the point: the same An Thuong one-bedroom is listed at 7–9M VND on Vietnamese sites and 14–19M VND on English-language ones.

USD amounts are approximate conversions at roughly 25,000–26,200 VND per dollar. Most published figures are expat blogs and crowd-sourced averages, not official statistics, so treat ranges as a guide and check current prices before you commit.

Rent

Ranges below are VietnamSpot’s (Sep 2026), a Russian-oriented blog, so treat them as indicative. Numbeo’s centre one-bedroom is 14.3M VND and its outside-centre one-bedroom 9.2M VND, closer to the foreigner-facing level, but users on that page say rents have risen.

Specific to Da Nang

Typhoon and flood season
The flood and typhoon season runs August to November, and October is often the worst month. In late 2025, Da Nang floods from 27 October killed 12 people and caused about $29M in damage (Tuoi Tre, 2 Nov 2025). Ask the landlord what happens at that exact address in heavy rain, and check which floor you are on.
Rainy season and air-con
Rain runs roughly October to March. Summer bills spike because electricity is charged in progressive tiers, and landlords often bill above the state rate.
How you search sets the price
The same one-bedroom can cost twice as much through an English-language listing as through a Vietnamese site. If you can view in person and negotiate, you save more than any other single decision.

What we could not verify

We looked for these and found no reliable published figure, so we left them out rather than guess:

  • Two-bedroom rents and used-motorbike prices.
  • Consultation fees at Family Medical Practice, Hoan My and Vinmec (the only Vinmec figure we saw, about 800,000–1.5M VND, came from a low-confidence guide).
  • A local health insurance price and laundry prices.
  • A credible couple budget, and numbers for tourist-season or Tet rent spikes.
  • The tariff in force: the May 2025 decision set a different five-tier scale, one source says it applies only after the next adjustment, and a June 2026 bill reference still showed six tiers. We did not verify the official EVN notice.
  • Petrol was volatile in 2026 (RON95 replaced by E10 from 1 Jun 2026); check Petrolimex before budgeting.
  • Undated aggregator totals (GlobalCostData and similar) do not reconcile with each other, so we left them out.

Electricity tariffs change; check the current schedule on evn.com.vn before relying on a monthly estimate.
